According the the US Census Bureau, more citizens in Mississippi live in poverty than in any other state.
Nationally, the poverty rate increased from 14.3 percent in the 2009 ACS to 15.3 percent in the 2010 ACS. The number of people in poverty increased from 42.9 million to 46.2 million during the same time period.
WalMart announced today that it would no longer offer health care benefits to new part time workers. Tobacco users will also have to pay more for health care.
Employers stopped adding jobs in August, an alarming setback for an economy that has struggled to grow and might be at risk of another recession.
The government also reported that the unemployment rate remained at 9.1 percent. It was the weakest jobs report since September 2010.
The Daily Journal is reporting that Tupelo Regional Airport Director Josh Abramson told them that he "doubted" that the maintenance performed on the aircraft involved in the crash by the airport's maintenance shop on Monday contributed to crash. Mr. Abramson also told the Daily Journal that "he did not immediately know what kind of work had been performed."
Boarding numbers continue to remain low and Delta, the only airline currently serving the Tupelo Regional Airport, has announced that it will end service in 2012, despite receiving $974,000+ annually in federal subsidies. Yet Tupelo continues to march forward with a seemingly unnecessary runway extension.
